Mountain Sails Again - digital painting Dan Beck 2004

Mountain Sails Again - digital painting / original prints - Dan Beck 2004

Pulled this piece up today - again following the concept of even how all original art comes from somewhere else. Way prior to this piece, I did a very fluid mostly abstract painting which conjured up this lake, sea, mountain, and sail look - entitled Mountain Sails.

That original digital painting seemed quite unique to me and was the first painting I ever printed on a larger scale. Like life, we move on to new challenges and develop new ways of doing things - sometimes we long for the innocence of yesterday.

There is nothing original about trying to capture the feeling of a previous work - and yet it is original - the approach is different because it has the advantage of having seen what has come before.

Experience is built upon - the above piece though a bit stylized still works but doesn’t have that quality of having found a new place.

Art Prints Reveal Original Digital Painting

new work brings up the power of the actual art prints

Pick Aside - digital painting / art prints - Dan Beck 2006

Pick Aside - digital painting / art prints - Dan Beck 2006

As I am typing, this digital painting is working its way out of the printer in the form of a full to an eighth of an inch of the edge, art print - printed on Japanese watercolor paper.

I can see just the first figure at this point, but I can tell the strawberry fields themselves are going to be quite scrumptious. Doubt one will actually smell the strawberries, but the layers of color and texture make this art print more interesting than even what one can see in the larger version.

Like every image on the net, nothing can do justice to being there.  Because this painting was created digitally, it might be more accurate - but I am beginning to think that digital art may not be - every time I look at one of the art prints I see so much more, whatever the piece.

Experience and Perspective

power of perspective leads to original digital painting

Dividing Road - digital painting / art prints - Dan Beck 2004

Dividing Road - digital painting / art prints - Dan Beck - 2004

There is kind of a nice design and balance to this piece. The road winds through - off center a bit and there are three main areas to the piece which are each bold and clearly delineated.

When I set out to paint the experience, I found myself painting from above. The perspective was coming from somewhere other than my being in the car.

This digital painting is based upon an experience. And in the experience I was in one of the cars - but I think my mind was actually elsewhere - because something struck me about the scene.

There was barrenness on my right with the mechanization of irrigation going on - on my left were multiple crews of strawberry pickers - and there in the center - just passing through - on our way to or from work or fun - we traveled just as much a part of the scene.
