current experiment in large art prints made by combining sheets of watercolor paper

Bold Glimpse - Digital Painting/ Art Prints - Dan Beck 2006
I wrote an article about this piece which I don’t think I can improve upon - it was poetic and captured the evening in words enhancing the visual front and center.
Today I bring it up for different reasons. First it remains one of my personal favorites - in some way I feel like this is uniquely me - though undoubtedly there are other pieces which are even more so.
Secondly, I have not as of yet had a reason to have this printed large. It has just become an experiment of printing half a piece on my largest capable size watercolor sheet (13 x19″) - and piecing the two together.
From what I have been able to do so far, I think it might work - gluing will be the key. And I am too sick to glue (a cold). At the very least is will be stupid - but fun. But who knows it may prove to be an economical way of printing larger pieces at Outhouse Studios proper - particularly if they are designed to be done that way.
For availability of art prints for this or any other digital paintings found exclusively on the blogsite, please email: specialorders@outhousestudios.net.

pretty unrelated really - but interesting - I thought “too sick to glue” was pretty funny so I googled it - guess I am too sick to search too hard too

I keep thinking about this piece as one being uniquely me and also having the bold light of the above piece - the connection with the other link is not lost on me either

size of print can help you to feel the scene

Wave Spray - digital painting / art prints - Dan Beck 2004
As I look at this piece, I realize I have not been taking advantage of the close proximity to the beach. I know I am not alone in this - but I hate to think of myself as taking things for granted.
The above piece works beautifully large - no really large - where you feel the spray and imagine the smoothness of the sand.
This is both the beauty and the disadvantage of this medium. For some landscape art - large is what makes it work. The above digital painting is an all right enough composition - but it isn’t that exciting - but large and you have the impression you are there.
Well almost, I think I need to make my way to the beach soon - if you don’t live close to one, I am sorry - but more reason for me to not squander it.

Full size printing brings out dramatic changes - accurate printing takes practice

Material Mount View - digital painting - 2004 - Dan Beck
When I first found a printing company who could do the quality of printing I wanted on fine watercolor paper, this was the piece I chose first to print large.
When I created it, I used a template (e-canvas) I had created which had the maximum pixels I could create with - given the program with which I paint. It was intended to be printed large from its inception.
I chose the piece because of its texture. On the computer I can enlarge a piece and visualize a section at a time at the intended size - but not the whole piece. This particular work looked like it would change dramatically when enlarged.
Despite a number a printing trials, the first piece did not print with correct colors - part of Macintosh to Windows conversion and just the shear trickiness of it.
Many prints later, I am pleased to say, we have printing accurately really dialed in.
