Visual Similarity: Fields and Water

hidden figures are fun and hint at wading

I didn’t mention the aspect of water in this digital painting when I wrote about it recently. It is probably obvious that I see similarities between the fields and the ocean.

I entitled an article about a similar piece: Wading through Fields because of the similarity there as well.

When people are partially hidden by crops, by hills, or by corn one can’t help but interpret in the way one sees water - well I do anyway.

I think this piece is fun on a lot of levels - the hats behind the corn - picking the unknown strawberries - and I have forgiven myself the interior design colors - they seemed to work despite themselves.

Corn Row and Strawberries

hidden figures and colors for the type of day

It is not uncommon to see a single row of corn as a barrier between the road and the berry fields. I don’t know why that is - I can’t imagine it provides that much of a windbreak - perhaps it is tradition - like the rosebush at the end of a grape row (so I thought).

I just happened to notice pickers yesterday with heads barely visible - essentially under and behind the row of corn.

There were many other pickers joining them. The colors kind of just happened - but in some ways I feel they are more representative of the type of day and weather than a photo would have been.
