Music Art Continuum

Time, Space, and the Endlessness of Creativity

Jazz 3 - digital painting - 2005

Jazz 3 - digital painting and art prints - 2005 - Dan Beck

Music exists in time and space, but not so much in vision - though one might not know that with the advent of music videos and of course live performance from the get-go.

It is not two dimensional and it is more than three - and I am not sure exactly why I say that. But like vision it can stay with us and reappear at a later time even though it is long gone.

How the above is like music is a tough call, but I know it to be. I know it was about the music I was listening to - moving to the beat and feeling the place inside.

Sometimes I feel art is time based as well - only working in a certain place and time - but creativity fortunately seems to be endless.

Primitive Digital Finish

Quick Study 0

Quick Study 0 - digital painting - Dan Beck 2007

Thought I would break the ice with this new blog category by sharing the precursor to the last digital painting I was able to blog about. I got to the point above and thought the piece might be complete.

Declaring a piece finished is no different for the digital medium than any other - but I have found that with digital art, I can create and save a number of different endings.

What struck me about the above stopping point was how pleasing the textures looked and how balanced in the degree it was worked.

The rawness reminds me of a woodblock print or a monoprint. And though I wasn’t done, I like the way this piece looks and feels - enough so to save and share.

Blog a Song

so much to do - difficult to move

early logo - represents home on site

Finding it difficult to blog this week - my website has to be moved to a new host - yesterday - and it is a more complicated process than it should be - images and pages case sensitive where they weren’t and htm/html endings a necessity and more problems to discover.

Even though it came from a different place I keep hearing this song:

I can’t stand still and I can’t move on
And it’s way too hot to be writing this song
I can’t stand still and I can’t move on
It’s a common theme, but maybe nothing’s wrong

Patience, Virtue, Assertiveness,
Listening, Asking, Believing in,
Connecting to what counts

We can’t stand still and we can’t move on
And it’s not like anything has even gone wrong
We can’t stand still and we can’t move on
There’s so much to do and it will take so long

You can’t stand still and you can’t move on
And you might not know why I write this song
You can’t stand still and you can’t move on
So it’s not all good, but then there’s nothing wrong
