Creating from Impression, Communicating a Feeling
Tehachapi – Dan Beck -Digital Painting 2005

Over Thanksgiving, I had the wonderful opportuntity of driving from Salinas, CA to Phoenix, AZ and back. It was wonderful in that we were able to take a lot of old route 66 and see some incredible sights – so many in fact, that retaining them was next to impossible.
I like cameras and photography, but I prefer to not put the camera’s view in between what I see and what I create. It is just my way.
The scene above, was the last truly compelling thing I witnessed (although not route 66)- coming down Tehachapi mountain with the sun setting and the vast view and some other world zigzag hill mountains that I couldn’t quite encode properly.
I have no photos of my own – and so far haven’t found the right area on the net, but that is not what this is about.
I am interested in communicating a feeling – a feeling of vastness, beauty, awe, color, and maybe my own smallness.
