creating from what is discarded and the look of stained glass
Paste-and-So – digital painting / art prints – Dan Beck 2000
One of the things I really like about this medium is the quality of light I can get. Overlapping gradients of translucent color and creating the pieces on a back lit monitor contribute to the phenomena.
I have never understood how the printed images end up with that look of light from behind.
The above digital painting has always reminded me of stained glass. Partially because it is made up of small pieces and also the light quality.
From a creative standpoint, this piece is about creating something good out of something to be discarded. My recollection is the piece was built by taking parts from a piece I didn’t care for as a whole – but did like sections. I copied and pasted and manipulated slightly to create this pleasing piece.
It is not the way I generally work, but paste-and-so what?
